Londonderry, N.H. – Consumers and contractors interested in purchasing energy efficient appliances and systems for their homes and residential projects can apply for available state rebates that can be used toward the purchase of a variety of eligible Bosch Thermotechnology products including high quality Bosch gas tankless water heaters, Bosch and Buderus solar thermal systems, Buderus floor-standing and wall-hung boilers and FHP geothermal systems.
The state rebates are part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) State Energy Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program. The DOE announced in July 2009 that $300 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act would be made available to states and territories to promote the purchase of ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances.
Under the program, consumers can receive rebates to purchase new energy efficient appliances when they replace used appliances. Each state and territory has its own selected categories of ENERGY STAR® qualified products to rebate based on the DOE’s list of recommended appliances including:
• Gas tankless water heaters
• Central air conditioners
• Heat pumps (air source and geothermal)
• Furnaces (oil and gas)
• Room Air Conditioners
• Household Appliances
Each state and territory chooses the rebate dollar amounts for the products selected. Most rebate amounts range from $50 to $500, depending upon the product being purchased, the purchase price and other potential market factors. Some states give additional rebates for recycling.
Each state runs its own rebate program and publishes its own rebate forms. Each state has received an amount of funding to distribute proportionate to its population compared to the total U.S. population, with a minimum of no less than $100,000. States have until February 2012 to allocate the money, and it is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The rebate program is for residential consumers. Only purchases that replace an existing appliance are eligible for a rebate. Consumers can combine a state rebate with the federal energy tax credit for the same product, as long as the purchase qualifies under the rules of both programs and is not specifically excluded.
Consumers may also be able to combine the state rebate with a local utility rebate, but eligibility should be verified with both organizations. “More than 70 percent of the energy used in homes is for space heating, cooling, water heating and household appliances, according to the DOE. Replacing old appliances and systems with those that are ENERGY STAR® rated can help homeowners save significantly on their monthly utility bills”, said Nuno Fernandes, Director for Customer Engagement and Demand Creation, Bosch Thermotechnology Corp.
“Bosch has a wide variety of energy efficient water heating and home climate systems that qualify for available state rebates. When combined with existing Federal energy tax credits and utility company incentives, the upfront cost to become more energy efficient becomes very affordable.”
