Bosch Telehealth and Care Solutions to join forces

- Improved quality of life and security in the home environment
- Comprehensive product portfolio for Telehealth and Telecare

PALO ALTO, Calif. – On January 1, 2012, Bosch’s Telehealth and Care Solutions (Social Alarm/NurseCall systems) businesses will both become part of Robert Bosch Healthcare. Bosch is the global market leader in the field of Telehealth and one of the leading Telecare providers in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

The new unit will employ a total of 320 associates. Dr. Jasper zu Putlitz, chairman of the Board of Management at Robert Bosch Healthcare explains: "Our aim is to become the leading provider of telehealth and personal alarm systems (PERS) in the home." In order to achieve this, the company determined that it was necessary to put products and sales from both businesses under one business area. According to Dr. Marcus Kind, Head of Sales & Marketing for the Care Solutions business area: "Incorporating the Telecare product range will allow Bosch Healthcare to offer a broad portfolio of products and systems to support patients with chronic diseases and older persons in the home."

Independent living at home
The Business Unit “Care Solutions”, which is currently part of Bosch Security Systems, offers a complete range of PERS and NurseCall systems. The PERS allows people to live independently in their homes while having access to assistance 24/7 at the touch of a button. The NurseCall system allows those living in retirement homes, nursing homes, and other assisted living facilities to have direct access to an emergency call button which they can press if they need to alert nursing staff.

Bosch Healthcare already offers Telehealth solutions for patients suffering from chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and diabetes as well as a number of other chronic illnesses and co-morbidities. The Bosch Telehealth System provides clinicians with information about the patient’s vital signs, symptoms, medication compliance, knowledge about their medical condition(s) and behavior. The daily sessions also provide educational content coaching for behavioral change and support for improved patient self-management. The Bosch Telehealth System has consistently demonstrated, in numerous clinical trials, a reduction in hospitalization and an improvement in clinical outcomes. More than 50,000 patients, mostly in the USA, are currently benefiting from the Bosch Telehealth system on a daily basis.

Significant efficiency gains for the healthcare sector
"The aging population, in conjunction with rising cost pressures in the healthcare sector make it increasingly important to offer innovative approaches to an affordable and sustainably high standard of care for elderly and chronically ill people," explains Dr. zu Putlitz. Strengthening the provision of outpatient services to optimize care and medical treatment for patients in their own homes, therefore, is a key element of improving patient care while reducing the cost of care. Dr. zu Putlitz explains: "Intervening early in a patient’s care, before their symptoms worsen, helps reduce the need for hospitalization, which, in turn, brings significant efficiency gains for the healthcare sector as a whole."
