|The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) awarded Bosch’s Albion, Ind., facility the state’s Environmental Stewardship Program certification during a ceremony Tuesday at the plant. The plant has taken key measures to reduce its environmental impact on the state’s atmosphere. |
Indiana’s Environmental Stewardship Program is a performance-based leadership program that rewards entities in Indiana for surpassing current environmental regulations. Bosch’s strong commitment to achieving environmental stewardship is evident by this award.
Thomas Easterly, commissioner for IDEM, says the program is rigorous: “To be eligible for the program, companies are required to have an environmental management system (EMS). Within EMS policies, companies must outline and meet measurable objectives and targets. In addition, they need to demonstrate that they have implemented initiatives that proactively protect the environment. Awardees have each instituted a general environmental training program for their associates as well as a procedure to identify and respond to community concerns. Bosch’s Albion plant not only meets, but in many cases, exceeds IDEM’s standards.”
The approximately 400 associates at the Bosch Albion facility manufacture and supply modules and components for engine thermal management and compartment climatization.
“We place a very high emphasis on positively impacting the health and safety of the people in the Indiana communities we serve and are honored to be recognized for our steps toward securing a greener, more efficient tomorrow,” said Michael Sagan, plant manager of the Bosch Albion manufacturing site. “This certification helps convey our dedication to lead environmentally friendly lives and develop and manufacture sustainable products. As a company, we are committed to minimizing our carbon footprint. The Albion community is a good place to live and work, and we are very pleased that several community and government leaders were able to join in the celebration today.”
By continually improving environmental performance, ESP members qualify for expedited permit review, reduced reporting frequencies, and coordination of compliance inspections. To maintain ESP membership, companies must report on their environmental initiatives every year and reapply for ESP membership every three years.
Currently, 48 Indiana businesses are ESP members. For details about the program, visit IDEM's website at www.idem.IN.gov/4132.htm.
