Bosch Community Fund awards grants to organizations in Charlotte, North Carolina, area for hands-on STEM programs and environmental education

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Bosch Community Fund recently awarded more than $50,000 in grants to schools and organizations in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. The nine grants fund student engagement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and environmental sustainability.

By investing in hands-on programs, the Bosch Community Fund strives to enhance STEM educational opportunities for students in the Charlotte area. The grants will increase student and instructor access to regional resources, demonstrating the Bosch Community Fund’s commitment to supporting local STEM education.

By helping local students pursue STEM-related paths from kindergarten to career, we’re investing in our future workforce and in the economic health of the community overall.”

The Charlotte-area grants provide support for Science Olympiad teams, career counseling and development, robotics projects, apprenticeships and environmental sustainability education for students. The Bosch Community Fund awarded grants to the following organizations:

  • MeckEd’s Career Pathways STEMersion Experience – $10,000
  • Olympic High School Foundation’s Robotics & STEMfest – $8,000
  • University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Development of a STEM Exhibit on Sustainable Energy Sources for Rail Propulsion – $5,000
  • Central Piedmont Community College Foundation’s Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament – $5,000
  • Charlotte Works’ North Carolina Certified Career Pathways Training – $5,000
  • Discovery Place’s Summer Leadership Institute 2018 – $5,000
  • Citizen Schools’ Hands-on STEM Apprenticeships for Middle School Students – $5,000
  • Queen City Robotics’ FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge Tournaments – $5,000
  • Mecklenburg County Council’s STEM in Scouting Initiative (on behalf of Boy Scouts of America Exploring) – $5,000

At the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the Bosch Community Fund grant will support the development of a new exhibit at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. The interactive attraction will educate thousands of visitors on the use of alternative energy and environmentally sustainable solutions in railway systems.

The Bosch Community Fund provides grants in U.S. communities where Bosch has locations. Since 2015, Bosch Community Fund has awarded more than $388,000 to schools and organizations in the Charlotte area. Annually, the Bosch Community Fund awards up to $5 million in grants to organizations invited to participate in the program.
