FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Bosch Community Fund recently awarded a $49,800 grant to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. The grant funds education programs in Lincoln Public Schools focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and robotics. Through the partnership, the Bosch Community Fund and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln are reaching minority and female students with the goal of generating interest in STEM topics and addressing underrepresentation in STEM-related careers.

“This partnership with the University of Nebraska, Lincoln embodies Bosch’s core values and demonstrates our joint commitment to improving the futures of the community’s youth,” said Heidi Schlabach, human resources business partner at Bosch Security Systems. “By placing a particular emphasis on this group of students, we are giving them exposure to STEM learning opportunities that may not typically be available. At Bosch, we believe that high-quality learning experiences have lasting impacts on students, and by fostering interest in meaningful topics like STEM and robotics, we’re making an important investment in the future.”

The University of Nebraska, Lincoln is working directly with Lincoln Public Schools to build out programming for middle school students that brings practical learning into an engaging and welcoming environment. During the two-year initiative, university students receive training and act as mentors in robotics, coding and computational thinking courses. With this approach, the Bosch Community Fund and University of Nebraska, Lincoln aim to create a sense of community and enrich education for all participants. “We can’t express how grateful we are to the Bosch Community Fund for its investment in the Lincoln community’s youth,” said Kaye Jesske, senior director of corporate relations at the University of Nebraska Foundation. “With the grant, we are offering high-quality learning experiences to minority and female students who may otherwise have never had the opportunity to interact with the university and get exposure to STEM topics.

The impact is twofold: Not only do these bright and passionate middle-schoolers get to explore robotics and STEM, but students at the university are able to mentor these kids to expand their own education and leadership skills. It’s our goal to offer rich and nurturing programs that engage students and build career preparedness; with the help of Bosch Community Fund, we’re able to do just that.” The Bosch Community Fund provides grants in U.S. communities where Bosch has locations. Annually, the Bosch Community Fund awards up to $5 million in grants to organizations invited to participate in the program.
