FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Bosch Community Fund recently awarded $136,075 in grants to organizations in the Greenville, South Carolina, area. Four grants will fund education programs focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), as well as manufacturing and environmental sustainability. The grant funding provides organizations with the resources to offer learning opportunities in real-world applications such as welding, robotics and coding.

“Bosch Rexroth is proud to partner with Greenville-area schools and Clemson University in STEM initiatives as we work toward our common goals of maintaining economic progress and building up sustainability initiatives,” said Mike McCormick, vice president and technical plant manager at Bosch Rexroth in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. The grant recipients will develop comprehensive and practical learning opportunities focused on real-world issues and economic demand. “Clemson University is using funding from the Bosch Community Fund to enhance its automated boat project, which will demonstrate technology for cleaning up our oceans while spurring education in research and robotics,” said McCormick. “We strongly feel that these partnerships between education and industry are essential to sustaining momentum in innovation.”

The Bosch Community Fund awarded grants to the following organizations and programs:
• The Clemson University Foundation’s Launching Autonomous Boats for STEM Education and Conservation program – $25,000
• The Greenville County Schools’ Manufacturing Virtual Simulation Lab – $36,200
• The Greenville Technical College Foundation’s Advanced Manufacturing Honors Program for Greenville County High School Students – $32,000
• The Children’s Museum of the Upstate “Full STEAM Ahead!” program – $42,875

These Greenville-area organizations are committed to offering programs that will have a lasting impact on the community and the world. With local opportunities to develop STEM, manufacturing and environmental sustainability skills, these schools and organizations can help address global challenges such as pollution and environmental preservation. “Not only are we able to develop technology that enhances our research and preservation efforts, but we are engaging the surrounding communities and disseminating Bosch’s efforts to improve environmental sustainability programs,” said Dr. Yunyi Jia, professor at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research.

“The Bosch Community Fund grant allows us to create a feasible roadmap for the development of autonomous boats as part of the Clemson University Foundation’s STEM education and conservation initiative and the Bosch Ocean Conservation Project.” The Bosch Community Fund provides grants in U.S. communities in which Bosch has locations. Since 2013, the Bosch Community Fund has invested $630,790 in schools and organizations in the Greenville, South Carolina, area. Annually, the Bosch Community Fund awards up to $5 million in grants to organizations invited to participate in the program.
